As we continue our series Lamp for Our Feet, Light for Our Path, we come to 1 Peter 1:22-25 and find the “Seed” that causes us to be born again. This seed, the word of God, is imperishable, living, and eternal. Once it is planted in our lives, it continues to grow and produce fruit. The fruit of God’s word in our lives is drastically different than the fruit and glory that comes from our own flesh: it is sincere, earnest, and pure love for one another. It is love that we cannot produce or show other people in our own strength. It is love that is self-sacrificial. It is love that can only be found in Jesus Christ, the Word of God, who comes into our lives when we believe in him. As you read these verses, remember that the love God has planted in our hearts lasts forever because it comes from Himself. 1 Peter 1:22-25: Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.
