SERMON SERIES:
SMART MOVE: REDIRECT
06/11/2023
What would the world be like if everyone was willing to follow God’s wisdom? Would it make a difference? We would have more honesty, integrity, moral fiber, love, joy, peace – and the list could continue! The social impact alone would be dramatic and people’s lives would be changed. Humanity has always struggled to follow God’s wisdom, and it has given us heartache, pain, broken relationships, violence, and even death. As we look at the world, we may want to throw up our hands and quit! Yet, God’s power and wisdom are as transformative today as ever! Some days we spend too much time cursing the darkness, rather sharing God’s light with our world. This is why we are doing this series, Smart Move: Finding Wisdom for Your Life. The sermon this week is Redirect. Life is a process of redirection and course adjustment to accomplish our goals and desires. All of us are seeking to set a direction away from the bad things listed above, and to the things that will give us wholeness, peace and hope. This week, we turn to Proverbs 3:1-10, which has at its center these words: Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take (Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)). The rest of these verses revolve around and relate to this basic concept. As we read God’s wisdom conveyed by his servant King Solomon, we begin to discern an opportunity to direct our lives toward a greater, stronger vision. This is no ordinary vision because it is worth our best effort and it will bring us a fullness that we could only imagine. If you are looking for greater hope, it is here! If you are looking for greater strength, it is available! If you are looking for a deeper purpose, it is time to jump into the waters of God’s enduring wisdom for your life! This is our most earnest prayer for you as you read Proverbs 3:1-10, that you will find the joy, peace, and strength of God’s Spirit implanting the power of these words in your heart, and you will experience the fullness of trusting our faithful Savior, Jesus Christ! Proverbs 3:1-10:
My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. 2 If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. 3 Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. 4 Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. 7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil. 8 Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. 10 Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.
