SERMON SERIES FOR OUR SUNDAY WORSHIP ON THE LORD’S DAY, November 13, 2022:  We hope that you are weathering tropical storm Nicole.  We pray that no one will be hurt by this storm.  Why do we have to worry with storms or hurricanes?  It is the impact of a broken world.  If you remember in the Garden of Eden there was no need to worry about storms.  However, after Adam and Eve chose to “compete” rather than commune with God, their world and our world changed.  The Paradise of Eden came to an end and now humanity has to make their living “by the sweat of their brow.” (Genesis 3:19) Instead of a paradise we now struggle with the forces of nature, the fragility of mortal bodies, and the power of sin.  In our series Go Boldly the sermon is The Abundant Gospel.  Jesus came into this broken, fearful world to redeem us from these forces and the power of sin.  One day there will be a new heaven and a new earth.  One day we will find resurrection and life eternal rather than death.  One day the power of sin will be overwhelmed by a completely restored relationship with God.  As great as this sounds, we all realize that this day has not yet come!  What do we do in the interim time?  This week we turn to Romans 12:1-2.  Paul is writing to the Roman church about finding the transforming power of the Gospel for their everyday existence.  We do not have to be defined by the forces of this world because God has a better option which enables our lives to shine with the redeeming power of Jesus Christ.  This is the power of the Gospel for us!  As you read Romans 12:1-2 it is our most sincere prayer that you will experience the power of the Good News that is able to lead you to an enduring, eternal hope in Jesus Christ!  Romans 12:1-2:Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God– this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is– his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV)
