SERMON SERIES:
09/08/2024
We continue our series Empowering Prayer with the sermon Power of the Word. Prayer is never an isolated reality. It is built upon the connections with other parts of a dynamic faith. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says: “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (NIV) It is obvious that 3 people are stronger than one, and 3 strands of string are stronger than a single thread. Empowering prayer is a connected reality that is able to gain strength when it becomes connected with other elements of faith. When prayer is connected, then it becomes more effective for us and through us. Last week we recognized the connection between community and the power of prayer. It was a singular moment Peter and the early believers witnessed the power of God enabling the Good News of Jesus Christ to continue to transform lives. They prayed together. Another strand of strength is the Word of God. Prayer and the power of the Word are intertwined. If we want prayer to have more impact on our lives and our world, then it is important to grow in the power of God’s Word. Our earnest prayer for all of us is that we will find the power of this Word to transform our hearts and strengthen our minds so that it will lift us from confusion and conflict into the comfort of God’s presence.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
“Blessed (happy) are those that trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along the riverbank with roots that reach deep into the water.” Jeremiah 17:7 (NKJV)
